Burn Crisis Protocol
If you need help now
Call or text 988, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, free and open 24/7. Or text HOME to 741741 to reach the Crisis Text Line. If you're in danger right now, call 911.
Burn is not a crisis service. Nobody at Burn watches your texts as they come in.
What Burn watches for
Every message to Burn is checked against a list of words and phrases about suicide, self-harm, wanting to die and serious distress. The check runs before any AI reads the message, so it works even when the AI is down. It's broad on purpose: a false alarm costs you one kind text and a quiet week, and a miss costs far more. It can still miss things, so if you need help, reach out to 988 directly.
What Burn does
- Stops the bit. No roast, no joke, nothing counted toward your goals.
- Sends you one text naming the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline and the Crisis Text Line, and 911 if you're in danger. Nothing else answers that message.
- Takes back anything of Burn's still waiting to go out to you.
- Doesn't text you first for 7 days. It still answers if you text it.
- Flags the exchange so a person at Burn may review it. Flags are kept 60 days.
- Counts that it happened, with nothing that identifies you, for the reports the law asks of us.
This works even if you've texted STOP or haven't replied YES yet.
What Burn never does
Burn's safety checks refuse any text of Burn's that says "kill yourself", or that brings up suicide or self-harm on its own, at every setting. Burn won't roast your health or a family crisis, and it drops the bit when you give a real reason.
